MacCleaner
Find junk, duplicates, big files, and app leftovers — and see how much you can reclaim before you pay a cent.
Get MacCleaner
Scanning is free. Unlock cleaning with a one-time purchase — no subscription.
Your disk fills up quietly — caches nobody cleared, build folders from a project you finished last year, four copies of the same photo, and apps you deleted that left half of themselves behind. MacCleaner finds all of it and shows you the number before you pay anything.
Scanning is completely free and always shows the full result — every file, every size, every category. No blurred numbers, no “upgrade to see results.” You decide whether it’s worth cleaning after you know exactly what’s there.
No account. No sign-in. No ads. No tracking. Everything happens on your Mac and nothing about your files ever leaves the machine.
Key Features
Scan First, Decide After
- Free, unlimited scanning across every category — junk, duplicates, similar photos, large files, and app leftovers.
- See the full breakdown of reclaimable space before deciding whether to unlock cleaning.
Junk & Caches
- Application caches, logs, crash reports, saved application state, and package-manager leftovers from npm, Homebrew, and friends.
- Every rule is checked against a safety list, and you review the file list before anything is removed.
Developer Clutter
- Xcode DerivedData, archives, device support files, and module caches — usually the single largest thing on a developer’s disk, and the easiest to regenerate.
Duplicate Files
- Content-based comparison, not filename guessing. Identical files are grouped so you can keep one and drop the rest.
Similar Photos
- Finds near-identical shots — burst sequences, the same frame taken six times — and groups them so you can keep the best one.
Large Files
- Sorts your biggest files so you can see what a forgotten disk image or video export is really costing you.
Disk Visualizer
- An interactive map of where your space has gone, so you can navigate into a folder instead of guessing.
Uninstall Apps Properly
- Removes an application together with its support files, caches, preferences, and saved state instead of leaving them behind.
- The Leftovers view finds orphaned support files from apps you deleted long ago.
Browser Privacy
- Review and clear browsing history, cookies, and site data across the browsers you use.
How Folder Access Works
MacCleaner is sandboxed, so it starts with access to nothing. On first launch you choose which folders to grant — normally just your home folder — through the standard macOS panel. Access is remembered between launches, and you can review or revoke it in Settings at any time. Some folders protected by macOS need their own separate grant, and the app asks for each one only when a scan actually needs it.
Free & Paid
- Free forever: scanning, the disk visualizer, and the system overview are free and unlimited.
- Unlock to clean: removing what a scan found — cleaning junk, deleting duplicates and similar photos, removing large files, uninstalling apps, and clearing browsing data — requires an unlock.
- Your choice of plan: buy direct with a one-time payment — a 1-year license or a lifetime license, no subscription — or get it on the App Store, where subscription plans include a free trial for eligible new subscribers.
Why You’ll Love It
MacCleaner is honest by design: it shows you the whole picture for free and only asks you to pay when you’re ready to act on it. No cloud, no account, no telemetry — just a fast, local tool that gives you your disk space back.
