Paster Privacy Policy

Overview

Paster is a menu bar clipboard manager and screenshot tool for macOS. It makes no network connections of any kind — there is no account, no sync, no telemetry and no backend, and the app contains no code that can reach the internet. Everything it records stays on your Mac. This policy explains what that means in practice.

Data We Collect

Paster collects nothing about you. There is no account to create, no analytics framework, and no crash reporter of our own.

What the app stores locally, on your Mac only:

  • Clipboard contents: while Paster is running it records what you copy — text, rich text, images and files — so you can paste it again later. It also records the name of the app the clip came from, and the time it was copied.
  • Concealed clips are never recorded. Content that an app marks confidential using the nspasteboard.org convention — the convention password managers follow, along with its transient and auto-generated markers — is ignored and never written to the history.
  • Screenshots and annotations: captures you take, the marks you draw on them, and whiteboard canvases you create.
  • Pinned images: the image, and the position, size and opacity of its floating window, so pins come back where you left them after a restart.
  • Your preferences: the interface language and the retention limits.

Permissions

  • Screen recording: required by macOS for any app that captures the screen. Paster asks for it the first time you take a screenshot or pick a colour off the screen, and uses it only for that. Nothing captured is transmitted.
  • File access: Paster reads and writes files only where you point it — the save panel when you export a PNG, and “Reveal in Finder”. It has no access to the rest of your disk.

Paster is fully sandboxed, and requests no other entitlements.

How We Use Data

Clipboard contents, screenshots and annotations are processed entirely on your Mac, so that the history panel, the colour conversions, the annotation tools and the pins can work. There is no service to call, and Paster behaves identically whether or not you have an internet connection.

Data Storage

History lives in a local database inside Paster’s own sandbox container, with images and thumbnails alongside it. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to.

History is bounded automatically: clips older than 30 days are removed, and no more than 1,000 clips are kept — whichever limit bites first. Clips you have favourited, and clips behind a pin still on screen, are exempt from both and are never swept.

You can delete any clip from the panel at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

Sharing

Paster does not sell, rent, or share your data. Nothing is sent anywhere. Data leaves the app only when you deliberately act — copying a clip back to the pasteboard, saving a PNG, or sharing one yourself.

Third-Party Services

None. Paster contains no analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking SDKs, and makes no network requests whatsoever — not even to Apple, since the app is free and has nothing to purchase.

Your Choices

  • Screen recording access can be revoked at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen Recording; only the screenshot and colour-picker features stop working.
  • Any clip can be deleted from the history panel.
  • Old clips are removed on their own, and pinning or favouriting a clip is what keeps one.
  • Uninstalling Paster deletes everything it stored on your Mac.

Children’s Privacy

Paster is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and collects no personal information from anyone.
