Overview

Spotless is a disk-cleanup and maintenance app for macOS that helps you find and remove junk, duplicate files, similar photos, large files, and leftover files from uninstalled apps. It is built to be privacy-first: everything happens on your Mac, and nothing about your files ever leaves the machine. Spotless has no account, no sign-in, and no analytics.

Data We Collect

Spotless does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on any server. We have no servers to send it to.

To do its job, the app reads information about the files and folders you grant it access to — file names, sizes, dates, and content hashes used to detect duplicates and similar photos. This information is processed entirely on your Mac and is used only to build the scan results you see. It is never uploaded or shared.

  • Folder access: Spotless is sandboxed and starts with access to nothing. On first launch you choose which folders to grant — normally just your home folder — through the standard macOS panel. Access is remembered between launches, and you can review or revoke it in Settings at any time. Some folders protected by macOS require their own separate grant, and the app asks for each one only when a scan actually needs it.
  • Browser data: the Browser Privacy feature reads your browsing history, cookies, and site data from the browsers you choose so you can review and clear them. This data is read locally to show you what can be cleared and is never transmitted anywhere.

How We Use Data

All scanning, comparison, and analysis run on your device. File information is used solely to present scan results and to perform the cleanup actions you explicitly confirm. Every cleanup rule is checked against a safety list, and you review the file list before anything is removed.

Data Storage

Spotless stores only its own settings and your granted-folder bookmarks locally on your Mac. Your files stay where they are; nothing is copied to us or to any cloud service. We do not operate any server that receives your data.

Sharing

Spotless does not sell or share your data. Because nothing leaves your Mac, there is nothing to share. Files leave the app only through actions you take yourself in macOS.

Third-Party Services

Spotless uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and makes no network connections for its cleaning features. The only external service involved is Apple’s App Store / StoreKit, used to process in-app purchases and subscriptions when you choose to unlock cleaning. Apple handles that transaction; we never receive your payment information or Apple ID.

Your Choices

  • Grant or revoke folder access at any time in the app’s Settings, or in macOS System Settings.
  • Choose which browsers, if any, the Browser Privacy feature may read.
  • Delete the app at any time to remove its locally stored settings.
  • Scanning is always free, so you can inspect exactly what the app finds before deciding to unlock cleaning.

Children’s Privacy

Spotless does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app has no account system and collects no personal data at all.
