ShowCam Privacy Policy

Overview

ShowCam is an iOS app for recording a presentation: the material you want to show fills the screen, your camera appears on top as a bubble, and the whole screen is captured into a single video with your narration. This policy explains what the app accesses, what leaves your device, and the choices you have.

ShowCam is private by design. Your recordings are created and stored on your device. We do not operate a server that receives your videos, photos, or audio, and you do not need an account to use the app.

Data We Collect

  • Camera. Used to show you in the camera bubble and to include you in the recording. The camera feed is rendered on-screen and captured into your video; it is not sent to us.
  • Microphone. Used to record your narration into the video.
  • Photo Library. Used two ways: to import the photos and videos you choose to present, and to save finished recordings back to your library. ShowCam only reads the items you explicitly pick.
  • Files you open. PDF, Markdown and plain-text files you choose are read from your device to display them. They are not uploaded.
  • Settings and usage counters. Your preferences, the daily free-recording allowance, and the rewarded-ad pass are stored locally in the app’s own settings. These stay on your device.
  • Purchase entitlement. When you buy ShowCam Pro, the app receives a receipt from Apple so it can unlock and restore your purchase.

ShowCam does not collect your name, email address, contacts, or location, and contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

Screen Recording

ShowCam uses Apple’s ReplayKit to capture the screen while you record.

  • It records only the content displayed inside ShowCam. It is not a system-wide screen recorder and cannot capture other apps or the rest of your device.
  • The captured video is written directly to storage inside the app on your device.
  • Nothing is streamed, broadcast, or uploaded anywhere during recording.

The Built-In Web Browser

One of the things you can present is a live web page, shown in a browser inside ShowCam.

  • Pages you visit load directly from those websites. Those sites see your request and may set their own cookies and run their own tracking, exactly as they would in Safari. Their privacy practices are their own.
  • ShowCam does not log, transmit, or retain the addresses you visit. Whatever appears on screen is recorded into your video, so take the usual care with pages showing personal information.

On-Device Processing

Background effects for the camera bubble — blur, virtual background, and cutout — run entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device machine learning. Custom virtual-background images you add are stored locally in the app. No image data is sent off the device for this.

How We Use Data

  • To provide the core function: display your material, show your camera, and record both into one video.
  • To apply the visual effects and annotations you turn on, all locally.
  • To enforce the free tier’s daily recording allowance and to unlock Pro features you have purchased.

Data Storage

  • Recordings are stored on your device, in the app’s own storage and — when you choose or enable automatic saving — in your Photo Library.
  • Imported material, custom backgrounds, and settings are stored locally.
  • We do not store your recordings, photos, audio, or files on any server we control.

Because your content stays on your device, its security is governed by your device’s own protections — passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and iOS encryption.

Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal information. Your recordings leave your device only when you deliberately export them, save them to Photos, or send them through the iOS share sheet.

Third-Party Services

  • Google AdMob. The free version of ShowCam shows ads, and an optional rewarded ad can unlock a temporary Pro pass. To serve them, Google’s advertising SDK may process a device advertising identifier and ad-interaction data. This is used for advertising, and ShowCam declares no cross-app tracking. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
    • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, ShowCam presents Google’s consent form before requesting ads, and your choice governs what Google may use.
    • Where iOS requires it, you will also see Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. Declining does not restrict any ShowCam feature.
    • Purchasing ShowCam Pro removes ads entirely.
  • Apple (App Store / StoreKit). Handles all purchases and subscriptions. We never see your name, card number, or payment details. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
  • Apple’s iTunes lookup service. The “Our Apps” section in Settings fetches our public App Store listings. This request contains no personal information about you.
  • Websites you choose to open in the built-in browser, as described above.

ShowCam uses no analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting services.

Your Choices

  • Grant or revoke Camera, Microphone and Photos access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, or from the permissions card in ShowCam’s Settings tab. Revoking camera or microphone access disables recording.
  • Manage advertising consent through your regional consent choices, and App Tracking Transparency in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • Delete any recording at any time from within ShowCam or from the Photos app. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device.
  • Manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions.

Children’s Privacy

ShowCam is not directed at children under the age of 13, or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Updates will be reflected by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
